I am presently working on a kimono from a book called Knit Kimono by Vicki Square. I am knitting the kimono which is featured on the cover of the book. This book has some fun projects that are relatively simple to knit, and some of the kimonos are for more advanced knitters - so there is something here for all levels of knitting proficiency.
The kimono I am working on is called Komon Kimono, Pgs. 70 – 73 of that book. It is basically 5 rectangles, though you do have to add a front band to it, which makes a lovely front edging/collar, but also adds some complexity and finishing work to the project. The stitch, however, is a relatively simple 4 row repeat, which forms a lattice. It is an easy stitch that doesn't require too much concentration -- an ideal stitch to work on while watching your favorite TV program.
The first picture is of the two front panels, which I am knitting at the same time. I find it more efficient and easier to work the two pannels together, that way you know they will be the same length without any row counting. I will also work both sleeves together in the same way. It somehow seems to make the project go faster when you do it that way.
The second picture is a close-up of the stitch. I am using a yarn by Berroco called Softwist, which is a wool-rayon blend and which has a lovely drape. I am looking forward to the finished project, though I still have a way to go on it, but I am having fun knitting it.
